Eligibility: Medicine, Engineering and Science Awards

  • Nominees must be within 15 years of first faculty appointment at the time the awards are given. The 2017 O'Donnell Awards will be presented at the TAMEST Annual Conference, January 19, 2017.
  • Nominees must have spent the past two years performing research or developing technology in Texas.
  • Past nominees may be re-nominated.
  • For team nominations, all team members must meet award eligibility requirements.
  • TAMEST members are not eligible for nomination.

2017 Science Award - Biological Sciences

The O'Donnell Awards Selection Committee will give preference to nominations for research in the biological sciences for the 2017 Science Award. The committee will give preference to nominations for research in the physical sciences for the 2018 Science Award.

Eligibility: Technology Innovation Award

  • Nominees must be continually employed in the state of Texas for the past two years.
  • Nominees must be within 25 years from their first full-time industry affiliated position at the end of the year in which the nomination is made.
  • For team nominations, the team member who meets all eligibility requirements, and must have had substantial responsibility for the development of the technology being considered.
  • TAMEST members are not eligible for nomination.

General guidelines

  • Nominators may only designate one award category. The O’Donnell Awards Selection Committee reserves the option to consider a nomination in any category.
  • Past nominees may be re-nominated by completing the re-nomination form. Although not required, additional or updated information may be submitted for consideration in the 2017 review process.
  • Eligible nominators include TAMEST members, university presidents, chancellors, provosts, vice-presidents for research, deans, or industry executives.
  • If the committee elects to recognize more than one individual in a field, the $25,000 honorarium will be divided evenly among the winners and each will receive a citation and statue.

Selection process

The selection process includes reviews by the TAMEST's Awards Committee in consultation with selected national experts from the National Academies and from industry, plus a panel of Nobel Laureates from Texas. TAMEST's Board of Directors will approve the final selection of award recipients.

Content guidelines

Instructions for preparing nominations are meant to serve as guidelines; TAMEST encourages nominators to be innovative in presenting candidate accomplishments. The committee is looking for substantiation of achievements as well as significance of nominee accomplishments.
