What is the refund policy?
Please contact TAMEST (tamest@austin.utexas.edu) to request a refund. Processing fees will be deducted from the final refund amount. The last day to request a refund is Tuesday, May 16, 2023.
For cancellations after May 16 due to weather or health issues, you may either transfer your ticket to another person or transfer your registration to next year’s TAMEST Annual Conference, which will take place February 5–7, 2024, at the AT&T Hotel and Conference Center in Austin, Texas.
Who qualifies for the Member rate?
TAMEST members represent all Texas members of the National Academy of Medicine (NAM), National Academy of Engineering (NAE), National Academy of Sciences (NAS), Royal Society, Royal Academy of Engineering and the state’s nine Nobel Laureates.
TAMEST members and spouses of TAMEST members qualify for the Member registration rate. Presidents and chancellors of TAMEST member institutions and past recipients of the O’Donnell Awards and Mary Beth Maddox Award are also eligible for the member rate.

Who qualifies for the Protégé rate?
TAMEST members may invite one protégé to join them at the conference. Through the TAMEST Protégé Program, early-career researchers are selected on an individual basis by TAMEST members to attend the TAMEST annual conference. The program is designed as a mentorship tool for early-career researchers (ideally within 15 years of their first academic appointment or are early career industry professionals).
After a TAMEST member has nominated a protégé for the conference, TAMEST staff will notify the protégé by email with registration instructions. Protégés qualify for the Protégé registration rate. Select the “Protégé” ticket to register for the event.

Who qualifies for the Member Institution rate?
Faculty and staff of TAMEST Member Institutions (see list of TAMEST Member Institutions below) qualify for the Member Institution registration rate. Select the “Member Institution” ticket to register for the event.

Who qualifies for the Sponsor rate?
If you are a sponsor for the event, select the “Sponsor” ticket to register for the event. Organizations and individuals sponsoring the TAMEST 2023 Annual Conference qualify for a set number of complimentary registrations. The number of complimentary registrations is dependent on the sponsorship package selected. During the registration process, you’ll be asked to list the organization or individual associated with your sponsor registration. Who qualifies for the Non-Member rate?
For those who don’t qualify for the other rates listed, select the “Non-Member” ticket to register for the event.

General Conference Frequently Asked Questions
What is the TAMEST Protégé Poster Challenge?
The TAMEST Protégé Poster Contest will recognize research that could have significant impact on scientific understanding and society. Posters will be available for viewing on the first full day of the conference, Wednesday, May 24.
Three protégé poster challenge participants will be selected to become finalists. Finalists will be invited to an exclusive VIP breakfast session with TAMEST leadership and special guests; networking opportunities with distinguished leaders of the Texas research and business community; and the opportunity to present their poster on the main stage to the TAMEST conference audience (five-minute presentation by finalists on May 25, 2023). Finalists also receive a post-event publicity and recognition certificate.
TAMEST staff will reach out to registered protégés with information on participating in the poster contest.
Please note: Protégé submissions received after Friday, April 14, 2023 are invited to attend the conference; however, their name and photo will not be included in printed conference materials.
Where is the opening reception?
A special opening reception will take place the evening of Tuesday, May 23, 2023, in the Morian Hall of Paleontology at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. The museum is located at 5555 Hermann Park Dr, Houston, TX 77030.
Will there be transportation to the opening reception?
Transportation from The InterContinental Houston – Medical Center to the Houston Museum of Natural Science will be provided. Details will be posted here and on the hotel and travel page as they become available.
What attire do you recommend for the annual conference?
We recommend wearing business formal attire to the opening reception on Tuesday, May 23 and to the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Awards Dinner on Wednesday, May 24. Business casual dress is recommended for conference programming during the days of May 24 and May 25.
