TAMEST 2022 Year in Review: Support TAMEST Today

As 2022 draws to a close and we reflect on what we have accomplished, we encourage you to make a year-end contribution to the TAMEST Annual Fund. With your support, TAMEST is fulfilling its mission to nurture the next generation by creating new research awards and expanding initiatives like the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Awards and Protégé Program.

Thanks to the contributions of TAMEST members and supporters, 2022 was an exciting and busy time for TAMEST. We held our first in-person meeting in over two years in Lubbock for our Natural Hazards Summit. The event assembled an array of research universities, the private sector and local, state and federal agencies to take a hard look at what the state needs to know and do to prepare for future natural disasters.

In June we met in San Antonio for our annual conference, Forward Texas: Imperatives for Health, where we brought together the top minds in research and industry to examine how we can build healthier communities across our state.

We celebrated 47 new TAMEST members, honored our 2022 Edith and Peter O’Donnell Awards recipients and celebrated the inaugural recipient of the Mary Beth Maddox Award and Lectureship. We also presented the 2022 Kay Bailey Hutchison Distinguished Service Award and recognized the recipients of the Oskar Fischer Prize.

Additional highlights from 2022 include:

• Expanding the Edith and Peter O’Donnell Awards to include a second science award. The awards now recognize recipients in the categories of medicine, engineering, biological sciences, physical sciences and technology innovation.

• Launching a lecture series featuring the recipient of the Mary Beth Maddox Award and Lectureship at NIH NCI-Designated Cancer Centers across Texas.

• Hosting a Poster Challenge for TAMEST protégés at the annual conference, recognizing those whose work could have a positive impact on communities. Three finalists presented their posters on stage at the meeting and attended a special breakfast with the Director of the National Science Foundation, Chair of the National Science Board and the Honorable Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Your support makes these initiatives possible and allows TAMEST to continue moving Texas forward, enabling us to expand our awards programs to recognize and promote more rising stars in Texas research and convene vital conversations on preparing for natural disasters and building healthier communities in our state.

In 2023, we plan to expand our work even further to nurture the next generation of great scientists and bring more research funding to the state. Your contribution sustains the crucial work of TAMEST, and we thank you for your support.
